Class fee:  $160.00 Payment: ( by cash or VENMO) is due in full by the first day of class.


    This in-person workshop is designed to give you the basic techniques required to start you in the wonderful world of watercolor. This friendly and open class is ideal for those who have never tried or have some knowledge in the medium. Some of the foundation subjects covered include - drawing, color mixing, wet-in-wet, layering washes, lifting out and brush techniques! I will provide printed images of what to paint each class.

 Note: This group will meet monthly to continue growing in watercolor painting while painting various subjects and techniques!

* Images/Photos- I will provide an image and drawing to trace of the landscape

* Paint  

  Brands I recommend are: 

   Winsor & Newton , Daniel Smith, Van Gogh

   You are welcome to bring your own - pan, tube, expensive, inexpensive. 

   I prefer tube paints for more pigment range, but pan works too.


    Good base of Colors: (in paint set w/ Blick Art Supplies On-Line link recommended  list below):  

   Lemon Yellow Hue, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Cadmium Red Pale Hue, Alizarin  Crimson Hue, Dioxazine Purple, Ultramarine, Cerulean    Blue Hue, Sap Green, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Ivory Black, and Chinese  White.  Add tube of Viridian Green (dark green)

   Learn Color Mixing I will be showing you how to create value range and mix a wide range of colors, with just using the primary and secondary colors.


* Watercolor Brushes - the best quality you have or are able to purchase

Synthetic-White or nicer... A blend of natural squirrel hair & black synthetic

Princeton Real Value brush sets for beginners to  Black Velvet Brand is much more expensive.

Get these shapes and sizes: Round 2, 8, 12, Stroke 3/4, Flat Wash 1/2). 

* Watercolor Paper - the best quality you have or are able to purchase, it just needs to be

  •  9" x 12"  300 grams rough texture 140 lb. This is a good weight paper that won't warp from moisture. We will be taping down to a board  

* Misc. Supplies from home needed:

  • 1- Roll or 5 sheets of paper towels

  • 2-3 sticks from yard for sgraffito (scratching out) lines

  • toothbrush for splatter

  • 3-Water containers (any sturdy cups) I like medium size glass jars

  • Masking tape 

  • #2 Pencil or mechanical pencil (#2 lead) for light drawing with eraser

  • Spray bottle- for misting

  • 11" x 14" stiff board to mount 9" x 12" paper onto with tape- foam board, card board, masonite board 

    * Blowdryer (If you have one) - for drying layers in between
